Chernihiv - one of the oldest cities of East Europe

Chernihiv is one of the most ancient and majestic cities of Ukraine.
It used to be the second capital of Kyivan Rus and is well known today outside the country for its unique historical sights. There are five of the total eighteen architecture monuments from the times of Kyiv Rus in Chernihiv. The sacred Christian temples created over 1000 year's history of the city and being invaluable treasure not for Christians only.
Old town Chernihiv with its Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral which is the oldest church of Kyiv Rus and Europe, Svyato-Uspensky Monastery with a group of cathedrals with the only wooden church from Cossack times and Svyato-Troyicky Monastery the unique baroque memorial with the largest underground temple in Ukraine – the Antoniy Caves.
Our Savior Transfiguration, Sts. Boris and Gleb's, Assumption Cathedrals, St. Elijah's and Good Friday Churches known as the gems of ancient Rus' architecture, masterpieces of Ukrainian Baroque Holy Trinity Monastery, St. Catherine's Church... All of these ancient sites make Chernihiv a sacred site of Orthodoxy.
